  Dr Shivani Singhal is an environmental social scientist and interdisciplinary researcher whose work explores the relationships between people, nature and environmental change. Her research sits at the intersection of environmental governance, justice, culture, sustainability transitions and community knowledge, with a particular interest in how different ways of knowing and valuing nature shape environmental decision-making. Her research spans themes including water governance, environmental justice, food systems, climate transitions and land-use change in both the UK and the Global South. A central feature of her work is creating space for voices that are often overlooked in environmental policy and research. She uses creative and inclusive methods such as visual ethnography, photography, film, storytelling and participatory workshops to explore how people experience environmental change and imagine more just and sustainable futures. She is particularly interested in the role of culture, memory, values and everyday lived experiences in shaping responses to climate and ecological crises. Currently a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, Shivani leads research on values and justice within the JUSTLANZ project, exploring what fair transitions to net zero mean for farmers and food-system actors across the UK.
